Thanks to the Schertz family, live updates of the Beloit tournament went on throughout the day today. I'll get the results updated on the site tomorrow sometime; I'd do it tonight but I've only had 4 hours of sleep in the last 32 hours because of work. Congratulations to all three green belt youths as Bob said they all did fantastic. For results (for now), click here.

Joshu Adam's everyday updates continue, haha. I didn't plan an update until Mr. C posted two excellent topics tonight.

Summer Training Seminar - Something that probably doesn't happen often at most dojos... This one is a must-read!
Choosing your friends wisely - Both my brother and I have already responded to this one, and Mr. C has replied to both of us.

Get to the forums NOW to read these topics!

By the way, for those interested, it looks like my camera arrives tomorrow. My tapes and bag came in today. I was talking with Mr. Hawkey this morning and he suggested taping myself to watch what I needed to work on (forms/sparring-wise). I want to play around with the camera for awhile first, but I'd be happy to film anybody who's interested down the line.

Beloit Tournament - Wish your fellow karate-ka good luck this Sunday! (Note: Parents, please submit results to me ASAP, or you can even call me for live updates on the forums. A photo album will be set up for those of you taking pictures.)
Mr. Chianakas' Kata Principles, Pt. 1 - Mr. C discusses the first of ten principles in kata training. This one explains the theory of hitting soft to hard and hard to soft.
Mr. Stephens goes old-school, Pt. 1 - A second awesome multi-part discussion - in this one, Mr. Stephens focuses on lining up and explaining why he is a stickler for it.

I've had a chance to read both discussions and hopefully by posting this, more can see it that might not visit the forums that often. Hopefully this whole site will get more of a plug for the new students next year so they can get posting right away and get a chance to know us through here. The forums definitely offer things that regular Tues/Thurs classes will not discuss. And things that are discussed might be more in-depth at the forums. So if anybody reads this Newswire but doesn't check the forum, it's highly encourage you do so.

So Techno Expo has come and gone. It wasn't what I envisioned it to be. I was looking forward to really showing off the site but that didn't really happen. However, I did spend a considerable amount of the morning playing euchre on the poker table that one of the guys from MTHS made.

I'm surprised I didn't update this sooner and it has felt like I haven't given EVERY update I could. The positive news that I've been forgetting to post is that I finally bought a videocamera on Friday! So now, the YouTube site will hopefully be more active once the camera arrives and I learn the software that I'll be buying with candy money. Unfortunately, the tripod I bought with it won't ship until June. I'll still be filming throughout the rest of the spring and summer for an end-of-summer highlight video. Next year I'm really looking forward to making a video because I'll be able to have footage from the whole year instead of just a few weeks like it will be this year, or just two days of filming a few people like it has been in years past. I'd definitely say to start looking out for videos by the time school lets out. I plan to archive a bunch of footage for future "Best Of" videos.

I hope everybody is doing well with candy sales. I've sold over 1 and a half cases so far. The whole deal about not selling at lunch is killing me, though.

Mrs. Craig started an excellent topic at the forums. If you haven't seen it, click here.

Finally, I will be representing Metamora Martial Arts tomorrow morning at the Techno Expo in East Peoria. I'll be showing off the website, so wish me luck. I'll also be there with some other tech-savvy friends of mine, including Illinois' Graphic Communications Champion Brandon Noll. I'll be back tomorrow with an update on how things went.

I've noticed a lot of us around school with our candy bars. I hope everybody is selling well - I just turned in my first case's money today.

Mr. C told me that the Soo Kim tourney is June 10. I can't decide if I want to do it this year or not since I'll be gone in the week leading up to it. Anyway, I encourage anybody to go to it. It's a good tournament, and it was my first one outside of the home environment.

I also added a few pics to the gallery - not much, but, I discovered some other pictures from the archives on my computer.

I just wanted to update you all with some handy links at the forums. I try to do this at least once a month, especially since the activity seemed to drop off in recent weeks.

Tons of mixed martial arts news - almost one thread a day!
High School summer schedule is out
Grade School summer schedule is out
Karate Camp 2007 - Deadline to register is May 11!
07-08 school schedule

Also, candy bars are in for those of you who ordered them.

Thursday, April 12, 2007

I just wanted to thank everybody who came out to Riverview these week. A lot of people stayed home with the spring break excuse but many of you came and were eager to learn.

Schedules for both the high school and grade schools return to normal next week. If anybody wants to compete in the South Beloit tournament on April 29, and you haven't started training, START NOW! The Grand Nationals are just over TWO WEEKS away.

REMINDERS: If you haven't begun yet, begin collecting money for Relay For Life. Money is due June 1. And, for those of you going to the US Open in July, the $350 payment is due MONDAY, APRIL 16.

Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Attenion those of you going to Relay For Life: Mr. C has written up a sample letter. I was intent on getting the letter because it helped me reach my $100 goal last year as opposed to the $30-40 I raised the year before. I've posted the letter under the Upcoming Events link.

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

April's schedule is now up in their respective places (Schedule -> Grade/High School), so check those out. High school - there is no formal practice over spring break, but EVERYBODY is invited to the Mr. Stephens-led classes at RIVERVIEW on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of next week. For grade schoolers, the cost remains $5 per night. Classes will begin slightly and ending earlier - from 6:00PM to 7:00PM.

Monday, April 2, 2007

March's Archives are up. Please check that out in case you haven't logged onto the site since before the weekend.

New games are planned to come to the Arcade some time over spring break. I'll keep you posted at the forums.

REMINDER: High schoolers - there is still regular practice tomorrow (and for the Mon/Wed group on Wed). Class is out on Thursday except for black belts, who will be with Mr. Hawkey. I've suggested to him working on new ippons and kihons.
